Life Basics

Everybody gets:

  • Food
  • Water
  • Shelter
  • Electricity
  • Internet
  • Healthcare / Wellbeing
  • (Society? Social?)
  • (Collaboration, Works)

When general society in the United States feels comfortable, healthy, and safe: a domino chain of positive externalities click into place.

When people feel safe and secure in themselves, their families, and their communities - the attention naturally shifts to more creative or selfless pursuits.

"Think globally and act locally."

Much heavy lifting has already been done by many inspiring individuals. Elon Musk is bringing solar power, electric cars, global internet, and interplanetary travel to us.

I see it as my niche to fill in the gaps and make our time here on Terra firma a bit more coherent and enjoyable. I imagine it's in most peoples' natures to relieve future generations of their troubles.

The fields I can meaningfully impact are Food, Social, and Collaboration. Food can mean many things to many people. For me, in Southern California, that means expanding access to locally produced food. At its most basic level, that also meant trying to grow my own food.

Social connections during the advent of technology are an everchanging thing. I hope to highlight technologies and excellent cultural practices that facilitate healthy and meaningful relationships. Many new dynamics will arise.

Collaboration is a fascinating topic because technology can help or obfuscate key elements of information gathering and decision making. On this topic, there are classical resources, and yet no one organization (or country) has figured out the perfect system for working together and consensus making. I hope to explore what works and what doesn't.

Helping yourself before helping others.

Much of this exploration is born from an interest to improve my own life as much as it is to influence perceived issues. It is a hybrid journey of learning, and creating sustainable effective structures. Philosophical as well as philanthropic.

I hold no illusions of being able to take credit or accomplish this alone. I'm just happy to see these areas trending in a positive direction.

"Now that all is well in the world, we can rest."

This might all sound similar to Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs, and that has absolutely influenced my thinking. My list here is one level of abstraction on these principles, interpreted in the 2020 era.

On top of this chart, I would also mention another I encountered that describes levels of social & communal self actualization above Maslow's individual self-actualization.
